HOME ABOUT ARTISTS EXHIBITS • EVENTS NEWS DONATE

During April of 2020, our studio had just shut down and we had to re-work our planned events into online versions. Flash forward to 2021, some of our artists (75% of whom identify as autistic and/or persons with autism) are back in the studio! For our Autism Acceptance Month 2021 exhibit, Make Studio wanted to illustrate how our artists have maintained and even deepened their artistic skills and ambitions during a challenging year. Each artist is featured with a "pre-COVID-19" piece and one that has been created during Make Studio's socially distanced virtual studio sessions.

"Going through the pandemic was really traumatic for me because of the sudden evacuation with my parents to our lake house, but eventually I became more hopeful as things calmed down, and attending the Zoom sessions made me feel like we still had an art studio, despite being away from each other."

"Sometimes people with autism have a really good talent - like my artwork! The world is so full of differences of opinions that I just don't know who to agree with. I connect to Stu Pickles and Beethoven as an autistic person."

"People need to treat each other well. What happens when you keep welcome to tyranny? It could be Lost Cause & Doomungous."

"It's difficult, but if you manage, it's not that big a problem. I haven't heard before that people think we would lose a lot if everyone tried to fit into the box of 'normal'."
