Ink & Canvas, Off-Balance:
Selected works by Gregory Bannister

Make Studio artist Greg Bannister doesn't get to come to our studio very often because of his full work schedule, but this does not slow down his prolific art practice. Of late, this includes the colorful, modernist-influenced paintings that he's become well-known for, as well as delicate, mono-chromatic ink drawings. For his first solo show, we're pleased to present a sampling of these recent works selected by Greg especially for this occasion.

Join us for the opening reception coinciding with First Friday in Hampden!

Exhibition runs September 4th - 28th

Artist-Run Art Fair is curated and organized by Open Space, an artist-run gallery located at 512 W. Franklin St., Baltimore, MD. Open Space's mission is to promote a vibrant, visible and connected contemporary arts community in Baltimore through producing a consistent curated program of exhibitions, annual festivals and maintaining a wide variety of supplemental events such as lectures, film screenings and music shows.

In fall of 2014, artist Kristin McWharter embarked on the Hear CharmCity project, a series of hand-drawn animations based on street interviews with Baltimore residents aiming to promote new platforms of communication for communities in our City. Project participants are asked, "If you could say anything to Baltimore City in 30 seconds or less, what would you say?" Debuting Hear Charm City to a wider audience and furthering its goals of inclusive communication, this show will feature a selection of artworks from Make Studio's 29 participating artists that reveal how they see Baltimore, paired with prints from Hear Charm City animations and hand-written documents.
The screening of the first season of Hear Charm City and collaborative videos produced by McWharter and Make Studio, along with an arts experiential, will take place on July 11 (3 - 8 PM).

This project is made possible in part with support from the Maryland State Arts Council mini-grant.

First Friday

A great thing about our new neighborhood, Hampden, is that it has monthly "First Fridays" in which local merchants open to visitors in the early evening and feature special events, shows, and promotions. For the first time on June 5, we'll host our own First Friday Open Gallery event! Please stop by between 5-8 PM for a casual look at our artists' recent works -- finished and in-progress -- and enjoy a drink and a snack.

Back by popular demand, Art Outside will once again be held in Druid Hill Park, and Make Studio is excited to be part of it again after a great event last year. More about the festival here.

Please join us in viewing a special exhibition of works by our program artists at our inaugural “Open Gallery” in our new Schwing Art Center.
