An Exhibit from Make Studio and Baltimore Therapeutic Recreation

Wild and Green is a showcase of recent works created by Make Studio artists and participants in the Baltimore City Recreation and Park’s Therapeutic Recreation Division art program. This collaborative exhibition has been curated to celebrate the wildlife, flora, and beautiful green spaces of Cylburn Arboretum, a rare setting in an urban environment that uniquely brings humans and nature together in harmony rather than conflict. Through their art-making practices, each in their own way, all of the exhibiting artists explore self-expression, try new materials and methods, and connect with each other and their communities. Join us as we celebrate the aesthetics and concerns of artists commonly typed as “outsiders,” making visible their observations and point-of-view to increase the vibrancy of our communities.

Join us for an inclusive, multi-media workshop inspired by recent collaborations between Make Studio artists and guest community artists such as Lynne Parks, as well as Therapeutic Recreation Division arts programming. Led by a teaching team drawn from this group, the workshop will feature live and not-so-live (i.e., taxidermy) specimens of flora and fauna. People of all ages and abilities levels will be guided in creating a 2-D or 3-D art piece using the media of their choice (e.g., pencil, ink, acrylic, watercolor, collage, found objects), or can elect to contribute to a group creation. Together, participants will explore and consider the beauty of the natural world and the impacts of humanity’s creative endeavors.
