Make Studio
is a 501(c)3 community-based arts organization in Baltimore, MD, envisioning a world of acceptance and inclusion where art opens doors for everyone.
Make Studio empowers artists with disabilities to grow as professionals with visibility and voice in their communities. We create opportunities for everyone to connect through art.
Gemma Frost began her art practice at Make Studio in 2017. This summer, we are preparing for a bittersweet farewell as she is leaving Baltimore for Vermont with her family.
We look back with her at the impressive body of work she amassed over the past eight years, and through which she demonstrated a profound sensibility for permeating portraiture with surreal and mystical
patterns and textures, effortlessly making markers her imagination’s extension.
Her work has resonated with fans near and far, and it was especially generous of a neighbor of hers to loan us a piece he owned so it could be submitted to a curated exhibition out of state.
In addition to showing everybody her artistic talent every Thursday, Gemma also made sure studio staff got a good sampling of her latest and funniest puns when she arrived in the morning.
Gemma, we wish you the best and hope you will continue your art practice up north. Keep in touch!
